Young Hearts Bereavement Training

Young Hearts Bereavement Training: Supporting Children navigating grief

At Workplace Bereavement, we understand the profound impact bereavement has on children and young people. Our Young Hearts Training is a transformative CPD-accredited programme designed to empower educators, caregivers, and professionals in child-focused settings with the knowledge and tools to provide compassionate support.

This training equips participants with an understanding of how grief manifests at different ages and stages of development, teaching them to respond with empathy and care, both in the short and long term. Together, we can create nurturing environments where children feel supported and valued as they navigate their unique grief journeys.

Why Bereavement Training is Crucial for Children’s Settings

Bereavement during childhood is not rare. The statistics paint a compelling picture:

  • 1 in 20 children in the UK  will experience the death of a parent or sibling before turning 16.
  • Every year, approximately 46,300 dependent children lose a parent, equating to 127 newly bereaved children daily.
  • Around 1 in 29 school-age children (roughly one per classroom) are bereaved of a parent or sibling.

The way children process grief is deeply influenced by those around them. Without proper support, grief can lead to:

  • Behavioural issues such as anger, frustration, or mood swings.
  • Physical symptoms like fatigue, digestive problems, or difficulty sleeping.
  • Academic challenges, including loss of concentration, falling grades, and feelings of isolation.

Your role in their lives can make a lasting difference. With our training, you’ll be equipped to offer meaningful support that helps children develop resilience and fosters a supportive community.
