Welcome to Workplace Bereavement
Bereavement is not a mental health issue. Grief is a normal human response to loss and we need to be prepared to safeguard our staff.
Studies highlight that 35% of employees felt they did not receive bereavement guidance from their employers. With the number of deaths in the UK being 667,000 in 2021, employers need to be ready for the extreme difficulty death leaves behind. One of the biggest hidden costs in the UK is absenteeism – a staggering £7 billion pounds yearly. A bereaved employee is most likely to have 30 days off beyond the initial bereavement leave. This is unscheduled time off.

Alongside our Workplace Bereavement consultancy, we also provide bereavement consultancy for sectors who deal with children, young adults, and people with learning difficulties (SEND). Such as education, healthcare and local activity centres.

How we can help
We know that death is not a boardroom conversation, however, it happens to everyone and a lot of us are reluctant to talk about it, which in turn has negative mental health implications; this is where we come in.
Workplace Bereavement specialise in providing workplace bereavement one-day advocacy training to companies and offer professional supervisory support post training. We aim to raise awareness of the difficulty of losing someone close and how it will inevitably affect their work.

CPD Certification
CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development and is the term used to describe the learning activities professionals engage in to develop and enhance their abilities. CPD is a holistic approach towards the enhancement of personal skills and proficiency throughout a professional’s career.
Continuing Professional Development enables learning to become conscious and proactive, rather than passive and reactive. It involves an individual documenting and keeping a record of the increasing skills, knowledge and experience they gain throughout their career.
CPD combines different methodologies to learning, which includes training courses, seminars, workshops, conferences and events, webinars and online eLearning programs. CPD can also include sharing best practice techniques, thoughts and ideas, all focused towards an individual improving within the work environment.

Workplace Bereavement Advocacy is proud to be CITB-accredited, a mark of our commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based training that meets national standards for professional development, mental health awareness, and workforce support.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is the UK’s leading authority on training and skills development within the construction sector. Through this accreditation, we support organisations and training providers in embedding bereavement awareness into their workplace culture. This includes:
- Enhancing grief awareness across teams
- Equipping managers and HR leaders with tools to respond compassionately to loss
- Promoting psychological safety and resilience across industries
